Many believe Botox injections can make the face look frozen or surprised, however the right dosage of Botox does not affect formation of facial expressions. When injected correctly it will soften and relax wrinkles resulting in a much more rejuvenated appearance. Individuals who do not have wrinkles can still benefit from Botox injections. Botox is an excellent preventative wrinkle treatment as well.

How Botox Works for Wrinkles and Lines

Botox Cosmetic is a purified protein that temporarily inactivates the targeted muscle group that produces wrinkles. It does not freeze your expression and there is no loss of sensation. Botox temporarily prevents the muscles from fully contracting which will prevent wrinkling and correct any wrinkles already formed. Overtime, and without the daily contraction of the muscle, Botox injection can reverse wrinkling as the skin relaxes into its previously smooth contours allowing collagen to resurface.

Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating is a common disorder caused by overactive body mechanism. This condition defines individuals who sweat four or five times more than normal people. Hyperhidrosis affects work productivity, confidence, social comfort, emotional well being and wardrobe choices. Studies show that hyperhidrosis impacts quality of life similar to well-known dermatological conditions, such as severe acne or psoriasis.

How Botox Works for Hyperhidrosis

Botox can be used to treat hyperhidrosis on the hands, feet and underarms. It can significantly reduce Hyperhidrosis by blocking the release of substances that overly activate the sweat glands. The reduction in sweating begins to take effect immediately after the treatment, but can take up to 14 days for the full effect. The result of this procedure lasts 6 to 9 months.

Botox is an injectable form of botulinum toxin called onabotulinumtoxin A. It is used for preventing migraine headaches in adults with chronic migraine headaches (headaches that occur on 15 or more days per month for more than 3 months, which has the features of migraine headache on at least 8 days per month.)

How Botox Works for Migraine Headaches

Botox works by blocking the release of certain brain chemicals including acetycholine and by blocking the movement of certain nerves and muscles. It is not completely known how Botox reduces headache pain and stiffness. A potential reason might be that Botox blocks nerves that send pain messages to the brain and relaxes muscles so they are less sensitive to pain.
